This five week course will focus on major social reforms of the nineteenth century and their impact on Suffolk society, together with the political changes and cultural attitudes that brought them about. It will investigate areas such as care of the poor, education, public health, and  administration of local government. The course will draw primary sources  at the Record Office, investigating poor law records, inspectors reports, school log books, royal commission evidence and medical officer of health records.
