Benjamin Britten (1913-1976), England’s most important 20th century composer, was born in Lowestoft and lived most of his life in Suffolk, settling in Aldeburgh where he and his partner Peter Pears are buried. His Suffolk roots were deep and informed much of his writing. Christopher Hilton, Head of Archive and Library at the Britten-Pears Foundation, will draw on material from the archive to illustrate Britten’s relationship to the county of his birth.
