Parish Register copying service
You can order copies of most Suffolk parish registers on microfiche. Unfortunately we are unable to supply copies on microfilm.
The parish registers on fiche and film list gives the details of the parishes, the number of microfiche and the number of years they cover. Most registers are available to copy from the record office but we are unable to provide all of them.
Understanding the list of registers
Total no. of fiche: Details the number of fiches that cover the period referred to.
Permission received: This column shows whether we have permission to provide copies of the documents or not. The availability of the document will change how you need to apply.
‘Apply each time’ means you need to apply for permission from the incumbent (normally the rector or vicar). You can apply to the incumbent by filling out a letter of request and emailing us for the name and address of the incumbent. If the incumbent agrees to the request they will inform us and we will place your order.
‘Norfolk Record Office (NRO)’ means records are held in the Norfolk Record Office. These parishes were in the Lothingland Deanery, which was previously part of the Diocese of Norwich. You will need to apply directly to Norfolk for copies of these records.
‘British Library (BL)’ relates to the Dunwich St Peter register only. You should contact the British Library to get hold of copies.
How to pay
You can pay by credit or debit card by telephoning the Ipswich branch and we will call you back on a secure number to process the payment.
Cheques should be made payable to Suffolk County Council and sent to the Ipswich office.
You can also pay by cash in our branches.
