Post 1858 wills

Post 1858 wills are held at the Principal Probate Registry which was established on 12 January 1858. It keeps a copy of every will proved in England or Wales since 1858 plus copies of letters of administration.  There is information on the National Archives website about where to find wills for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland.

The index to the wills can be searched online and copies purchased at the website

Ipswich Record Office holds registered copies of the wills proved between 1858 and 1941, while Bury St Edmunds holds copies for those wills proved at the Bury District between 1858 and 1912.
