Walks

Join us for themed walks across the county. Scheduled walks as well as bespoke/ group walks are available. We’ll be releasing further information soon, check back for the latest news!

All Ipswich based walks will be delivered by the Ipswich Tourist Guide Association (ITGA).

About the ITGA

The Association was formed over thirty years ago to introduce tourists and residents to the history and culture of Suffolk’s County town. The volunteer guides were originally trained under the national ‘Blue Badge scheme’, but as new guides were needed a local training programme was established, and now the Ipswich guides proudly wear their Red Badges.

While walks can be tailored to suit the particular interest of any group the guides have always been determined that the midweek walks are available to anyone who finds that they have time to spare and decides at the last minute to spend a couple of hours strolling around this fascinating town.

Accessibility

Although many of our walks investigate the less-visited areas of town, some going into old buildings, Ipswich is generally very accessible to all ages and all abilities. There are dropped kerbs and controlled crossings, and the churches that we regularly visit are ‘wheel-chair friendly’. We try to make sure that the cafes we use for our tea walks have good disabled facilities, although a few are in ancient buildings and we will always make walkers aware of that before starting a walk.

Please note: walkers are encouraged to independently assess their individual walking ability, stamina and general wellbeing prior to booking onto these walks. By booking onto these walks customers accept personal risk to injury. Suffolk County Council and the ITGA do not hold personal accident insurance and participants can consider obtaining private personal accident insurance.
