We have lots of opportunities to support our exciting events programme. From lectures to late night events, family activities or even escape rooms, we have a whole host of fun events throughout the year that you can get involved with! You can view our full programme of events here. At the moment most of our events are taking place at the Hold in Ipswich, but we are gradually introducing more events at our branches in Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft.

Why get involved?

The chance to build your teamwork and customer-facing communication skills. It is a great way to build up experience if you are looking to go into a career in events management or hospitality. There is often the opportunity to take part in the event itself or be an integral part of delivering the event successfully. With a range of different themes and target audiences you will find something that will pique your interest!

Escape Room Event Volunteer

Suffolk Archives will be offering escape room experiences at The Hold and we need helpful and friendly volunteers to assist us in delivering the event. Players will discover the stories of two inspiring Suffolk women: Louisa Garret Anderson and Nina Layard. They will help Louisa find the ingredients for her newly discovered medical treatment or recover precious artefacts from Nina’s archaeological digs!

You could be reorganising props in the escape room and maintaining cleanliness or greeting people as they arrive for their session. You could also be giving out goodie bags and taking feedback from our escapees. The escape rooms will be running on the 12th and 13th February 2022 (Saturday and Sunday) with the first session starting at 10:00 am and the last session finishing at 16:00 pm on both days. The weekend will be divided into morning and afternoon shifts, you can decide whether you would like to volunteer for a half or full day.

Thursday Evening Events Volunteer

Suffolk Archives will be hosting a variety of different talks and lectures throughout the year on Thursday evenings. We will have special guest speakers, academics from the University of Suffolk, and our very own archive staff talking about an array of topics such as local history, archival content, and our exhibition themes.

We need a team of volunteers to assist us in greeting guests, showing people to their seats in the auditorium and facilitating the Q&A section. Volunteers are invited to stay and listen to the talk or lecture being delivered on the night.

Engagement Volunteer – Ipswich Town Football Club

To mark the 40th anniversary of Ipswich Town Football Club winning the UEFA cup, we will be touring a brand new exhibition in our caravan! We’d love to hear from you if you would like to support the exhibition for a day event or at local football matches and team grounds. The touring events will begin in mid-July and continue throughout the summer into the autumn. If you are a big Ipswich Town fan or just love the beautiful game, we want you to help us bring memories of football in Suffolk to life!

Archives on Tour Volunteer Driver

As part of our exhibitions programme we are delighted to have an Archives on Tour display trailer hitting the road this summer and autumn. The trailer is a fantastic, converted cattle trailer towable on a standard UK driving license. For summer and autumn 2021 the trailer will be kitted out with a display all about the history of Ipswich Town Football Club and we will be joining up with the Rural Coffee Caravan and Sporting Memories to visit different places.

We are putting together a programme of locations we would like to take the trailer to over the summer and autumn including village greens, community centres, schools and many more. We need your help to tow the trailer to our different venues using your experience of towing and driving with similar vehicles or units. This will be a wonderful way to get out and about across the county, visit different events, and meet new people. There will be an induction process to go over key paperwork, familiarisation with the trailer and training.
